How to find a Jan Aushadhi Kendra near you

A Kendra is a licensed pharmacy that stocks Jan Aushadhi products. There are roughly nineteen and a half thousand of them across India, which means most people in a town or city have one within a reasonable distance, and some people in smaller places do not.
That is the honest starting point. Here is how to work out which you are.
Finding the closest one
Use the Kendra locator on this site. It asks your browser for your location, finds the Kendras nearest to you, and gives you each one's address with a link that opens straight in Google Maps for directions.
If you would rather not share your location, you can search by area instead. Nothing about your location is stored. We do not keep accounts and we have nothing to keep them in.
Before you go, do this one thing
Take the strip with you. Not a photograph, not the name written down: the actual strip or its carton.
The composition is printed on it, usually in small type near the brand name. That line is what the pharmacist needs to match against what is on their shelf. Working from a brand name alone means they have to look it up, and a photograph of a strip is frequently unreadable in the exact place it matters.
It is also worth searching the name on this site first, so you arrive knowing which Jan Aushadhi product you are asking for rather than describing the problem from scratch.
When they do not have it
This is the common disappointment, and it is usually solvable.
Ask when stock is due. Many gaps are a delivery cycle, not a discontinued product. If it is arriving in a few days and you have a few days of medicine left, that is the whole problem solved.
Ask about another Kendra. Staff generally know which nearby Kendras carry what, and a short trip may be quicker than waiting.
Ask them to check the composition against what they have. This is the step most people skip. The scheme may carry the same salts at the same strengths under a different product code than the one you looked up. The pharmacist can see that in seconds. You cannot see it from the shelf.
If none of that works, buy the branded one. Missing doses to save money is a bad trade, and nobody on this site thinks otherwise. Get your medicine, and try again next time.
What a Kendra is not
It is not a government office and you do not need paperwork, a card or a registration to buy there. It is a pharmacy.
It also does not only stock Jan Aushadhi products. Most Kendras carry other medicines too, so a Kendra having your branded medicine is not a sign you have come to the wrong place.
And the ordinary rules apply: prescription medicines need a prescription.
If there is no Kendra near you
Then this site has told you something useful anyway, which is what the medicine you are taking actually costs and what the alternative would cost. That is worth knowing when you next talk to your doctor, who may be able to prescribe something whose branded price is closer to the Jan Aushadhi one.
We would rather say that plainly than pretend a network of nineteen thousand shops reaches everybody. It does not, yet.
Common questions
- How do I find the nearest Jan Aushadhi Kendra?
- Use the Kendra locator on this site, which lists the closest ones to you with their address and a link that opens directly in Google Maps. There are roughly nineteen and a half thousand Kendras across India, so in most towns and cities there is one within a reasonable distance.
- What do I do if the Kendra does not have my medicine?
- Ask them when the next stock is due, since many shortages are short-lived. Ask whether another Kendra nearby has it. And take your strip with you so they can check the composition against what they do have, because a different Jan Aushadhi product may carry the same salts at the same strengths.
- Do I need a prescription to buy at a Jan Aushadhi Kendra?
- The same rules apply as at any pharmacy. A medicine that needs a prescription needs one at a Kendra too, and a medicine sold over the counter does not. A Kendra is a licensed pharmacy, not a different category of shop.
This is general information about medicine pricing, not medical advice. Never stop, start or switch a prescribed medicine without asking your doctor or pharmacist.
